The London Quay revitalisation project represents an exciting chapter in the evolution of Picton’s central business district, transforming this beloved thoroughfare into a vibrant, accessible community destination. In 2014-15 Council conducted a trial following a request from the Picton business community and expanded the pedestrian zone and licensed areas on London Quay. The trial received very good feedback and had remained in place for over 10 years. Over the following years, Council received requests from the Picton community advocating for this trial to be made permanent.

Beginning in late May 2025, work commenced to upgrade Picton’s main street connecting the CBD to the Foreshore Reserve, with the wider improvements for Picton noted through the Growing Marlborough strategy. Scheduled for construction through the quieter winter months, the redevelopment delivers an “invigorated streetscape” featuring enhanced landscaping and planting, expanded and levelled pedestrian and dining areas, improved street lighting, and cultural design elements that showcase Waitohi Picton’s identity.
